Ecowitt KWind as Data Provider for Windguru
KWind is building the live-wind station network using Ecowitt hardware and providing the resulting high-quality live-wind data to Windguru.
Our goal is not simply to collect and forward data. KWind also takes responsibility for the network, data quality, station deployment, and protecting the data together with Windguru.
For a station network like this to make long-term sense, the live-wind data needs to remain exclusive to the KWind/Windguru ecosystem. Otherwise, anyone could simply take the data from the network and use it for their own products without contributing to the infrastructure, station hardware, maintenance, or development of the network.
The idea is therefore to build a clear relationship:
Ecowitt → KWind Network → Windguru (Makani Live)
KWind operates and expands the station network, while Windguru provides the platform where live wind data and forecasts can be used by the kitesurfing community.
The KWind app adds additional features such as spot webcam integration, custom widgets for kitesurfing schools and their websites, and dedicated screen dashboards for displaying live wind data.
By working together, KWind and Windguru can protect the data, maintain its quality, and create a sustainable network that can continue to grow worldwide.
The value is not just the individual wind station or the app. The real value is the network, the data quality, and the relationship between KWind and Windguru.
Station Ownership and Data Rights ECOWITT KWIND with WINDGURU
The weather station is financed and owned by the participating kite center or station partner. KWind provides full setup, integration, maintenance, and support services for KWind, Windguru, web widgets, and related platforms free of charge.By participating in the KWind network, the station owner agrees that:The weather data collected by the station is exclusively licensed for use by KWind and Windguru only.During the setup process, the station owner provides the required station information, including the Ecowitt station MAC address and related device details.The station is registered and managed through the official KWind Ecowitt account.Once a station is registered on the KWind Ecowitt account, the MAC address becomes locked to that account and cannot be registered on another Ecowitt account unless removed by KWind.The locked MAC address serves as proof that the station is part of the KWind network and that the data is exclusively provided to KWind and Windguru under this agreement.If a third-party application, platform, or service changes the custom host configuration or attempts to redirect station data, KWind still retains ownership verification and administrative control through the registered and locked MAC address.

You can connect by using an Ecowitt or Froggit (Fine Offset) station, with simple setup through the KWind app. Data can also be forwarded to Windguru, allowing you to benefit from the features of both platforms simultaneously.
